The 1/4-inch aluminum alloy provides significantly more protection than the thin factory steel guard while being up to 30% lighter. It is also naturally corrosion-resistant, so unlike steel, it will not rust even if scratched.
For models with a metal oil pan, the skid plate includes a service port for easy oil changes. For models with a polymer oil pan (common on 2023-2024 Big Bend/Outer Banks), you will need to remove the skid plate for oil changes.
